The CGE and the TU Community would like to hear your story! Submit your study abroad stories to CGE’s annual Essay Contest! Share your most thought provoking, challenging, unexpected, funny, surprising, perplexing, or simply amusing stories from your time abroad.  You’ll get published in the CGE Newsletter and win great cash prizes!

  • Eligibility

    All past and present TU students who have participated in a recognized TU study abroad program are eligible to enter and win the Study Abroad Essay Contest.

  • Essay Guidelines
    • Essays should be a minimum of 750 words and no more than 1,500 words.
      • On the first page, please indicate:
        your name, writing date;
        name, location and term of the study abroad program you attended
    • Essays should be well organized and reflect an effort to communicate an idea, reflection or encounter related to your experience abroad that had an impact on you and of interest to a wide variety of readers. Use appropriate language and grammar, spell check and proof-read!
      • Suggested topics include:
        • Adjustment to a new culture and language
        • Cross-cultural barriers or (mis)understandings
        • Personal growth and insights
        • Unusual encounters
        • New perspectives on specific political, social or economic issues
        • Professional or academic development
  • Submission Instructions

    Please e-mail the essay attached as a word or pdf document to globaleducation@utulsa.edu by March 1st at 5 p.m. Use “Study Abroad Essay Contest 2015” as the subject. Only one entry will be accepted per student.

    Any and all submissions to the CGE Study Abroad Essay Contest may be used at the discretion of the TU’s Center for Global Education for promotional purposes. Essays or excerpts may be published at the CGE website or other CGE marketing materials. By submitting your entry, you agree that your essay can be used this way.

  • Awards

    Essays will be judged by TU Faculty and Administrators.   Winners will be announced during an event at the Center for Global Education spring 2015, date TBA.

    1st Prize: $100 and publication in the CGE Globe Trekking Newsletter.
    2nd Prize: $50
    3rd Prize: $25
